King James Version (KJV) on iPad

    Streamed

The King James Version (KJV) is the most influential English Bible ever printed. Its rhythm and phrasing shaped the English language, and many of the verses people know by heart come from it. It is a word-for-word translation in early modern English, with thee, thou and verb endings like believeth, which gives it a reverent, poetic sound. In Digible you can read the KJV, set it beside a modern translation on a tablet to make sense of older wording, and write, highlight and draw on it with Apple Pencil on iPad or a stylus on an Android tablet.

History of the King James Version

King James I of England commissioned the translation in 1604, and about fifty scholars worked on it in six companies at Westminster, Oxford and Cambridge. It was published in 1611. Most printed KJVs today follow the 1769 Oxford edition, which standardised spelling and punctuation. For more than three centuries it was the main English Bible.
