New International Version (NIV) on iPad
Streamed
The New International Version (NIV) is one of the most widely read modern English translations. Its translators aimed for a balance between word-for-word accuracy and natural English, so it reads clearly without drifting far from the original Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek. Many churches read from it on Sunday, which makes it easy to follow along with sermons and small groups. In Digible you can read the NIV, compare it side by side with another translation on a tablet, and write, highlight and draw on it with Apple Pencil on iPad or a stylus on an Android tablet.
Key Features of the NIV
- A balance of accuracy and readability
- Read in many churches and small groups
- Translated from the original Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek by an international committee
- A huge range of study Bibles and devotionals
- Clear enough for new readers, solid enough for study
Best For
- Following along with sermons in churches that read the NIV
- Daily reading and devotions
- Small group Bible study
- Bible journaling with clear, familiar wording
Sample Verse — John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

History of the New International Version
The NIV was translated by the Committee on Bible Translation, an international group of scholars from many denominations. The New Testament appeared in 1973 and the full Bible in 1978. It was revised in 1984 and again in 2011 to reflect advances in scholarship and changes in English. Biblica holds the copyright and the Committee continues to review the text.
