Advent Bible Reading Plan 2026
Advent 2026 starts on Sunday 29 November 2026. This free plan gives you a short Bible reading, a key verse and a journaling prompt for each of the 26 days to Christmas Eve, plus one for Christmas Day. Each week follows one of the four Advent candles: hope, peace, joy and love. Most readings take about five minutes.
The Advent plan, day by day

How to use this Advent plan
- Start on Sunday 29 November 2026. If you start late, read today's passage and pick up the ones you missed at the weekend.
- Read the passage, then slow down on the key verse. Read it twice, once straight through and once a phrase at a time.
- Answer the prompt in a few lines. Write in your Bible's margin, a journal or on the Bible page in Digible. Short and honest beats long and polished.
- Add something to look at. Letter the verse, draw a star or add a Christmas sticker. Our free Christmas sticker pack has stars, holly and a nativity, and our Scripture lettering guide has simple styles to try.
- Read it with others. Share the plan with your family, small group or church so you are all reading the same passage on the same day.
Why read the Bible through Advent?
Advent is the season of waiting before Christmas. Reading the promises God made long before Bethlehem helps you feel the weight of that waiting, so Christmas Day lands as the answer, not just a holiday. By Thursday 24 December 2026 you will have read the whole story, from the first promise in Genesis to the wise men in Matthew.

Advent Bible Reading Plan FAQs
When does Advent start in 2026?
Advent 2026 starts on Sunday 29 November 2026, the fourth Sunday before Christmas, and ends on Christmas Eve. That makes it 26 days long this year.
What should I read during Advent?
Read the promises of a Saviour in the Old Testament, then the Christmas story in Luke and Matthew. This plan follows that order: Isaiah and the prophets in week one, God preparing the way in week two, the angel's visits in week three and the birth of Jesus in week four, ending with John 3:16 on Christmas Day.
What are the four themes of Advent?
Many churches light a candle each Sunday for hope, peace, joy and love. This plan uses those four themes for its four weeks, so your reading matches the candle your church lights that Sunday.
How long does each Advent reading take?
Most days are ten verses or fewer and take about five minutes to read, with a few more minutes for the journaling prompt.
Can I print this Advent reading plan?
Yes. Tap Print this plan, or use your browser's print menu, to print it or save it as a PDF. Only the plan prints, one week to a section, with a box to tick each day.
How do I journal through Advent?
Read the passage, then write the key verse in your Bible's margin or journal and answer the day's prompt in a few lines. Digible is the best Bible journaling app for this: you write and draw right on the Bible page with Apple Pencil on iPad or a stylus on an Android tablet, so your Advent notes sit beside the verses they came from.
